VIDEO: Lynwood Unified Launches Beyond the Classroom Podcast for Families

Lynwood Unified School District is launching its first-ever video podcast to provide families with the tools and tips they need to support their children's social-emotional and academic journey in and out of the classroom.

Hosted by Director of Student Services Maribel Martinez, Ed.D., the weekly podcast, Beyond the Classroom, will feature expert guests who will discuss a range of topics important to today's youth, from substance abuse to the perils of social media.

The first episode – which will feature Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor Sarah Barnes and the importance of mental health – will debut at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15 on YouTube (@BeyondtheClassroom_LUSD).

"Student development doesn’t start and end in the classroom; it’s just as important to continue growing at home," Martinez said. "This podcast is an innovative step toward equipping families with the knowledge and tools they need to support their children. I am excited to see the positive impact this project will have on Lynwood’s families.”

The Student Services Department is dedicated to empowering students by offering a wide range of support, including counseling, social-emotional assistance, and other essential services, to help students and families thrive both in and outside the classroom. The podcast serves as a valuable resource, ensuring these services are free and easily accessible to families.

Through innovative resources like the Beyond the Classroom podcast, Lynwood Unified aims to inspire growth, foster resilience and create a brighter future.
