Superintendent's Community Message | September 27, 2026

Dear Lynwood Unified Community,

On Friday, September 25, I had the honor of joining the Los Angeles County Office of Education to celebrate Kathleen Thomas Butiu of Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School, selected as one of 16 Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year. This recognition honors her dedication to students and the compassion, adaptability and innovation she brings to her work. Congratulations, Ms. Thomas Butiu, and thank you for representing Lynwood Unified with such care and commitment.

Looking ahead, families and educators are invited to the 2nd Annual Special Education Conference & Community Resource Fair on Saturday, October 3, at Bellflower Middle/High School. Hosted by Bellflower Unified and Mid-Cities SELPA, the conference brings together the Bellflower, Lynwood and Paramount communities to strengthen support for students with disabilities.

Workshops will address topics such as understanding individualized education programs, supporting learning at home and preparing for life after high school. Registration is free and required, with Spanish translation available at all sessions. Free childcare requires separate advance registration. Visit the conference website to register, choose workshops and find childcare information.

Here in Lynwood, our Latino Heritage Month Health and Wellness Fair will also take place on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hosler Middle School. Families can enjoy cultural performances and activities, access health screenings and connect with community resources. Entry is through the Pathway gate on Bullis Road.

As we celebrate Latino Heritage Month through October 15, we honor the histories and contributions of Latino communities, including the stories within our own families. Our theme, “Unidos, Somos Más! Together, we are more!”, reminds us of the strength of those connections. Visit our district website for information about upcoming events, including the health and wellness fair.

Thank you for the many ways you support our students and stay connected with our schools. I look forward to the learning and conversations these gatherings will bring.

Sincerely,

Patrick Gittisriboongul, Ed.D.
Superintendent, Lynwood Unified School District

Atentamente,

Patrick Gittisriboongul, Ed.D.
